Valais Blacknose Sheep
‘World’s Cutest Sheep’
For us, it began with a passion and a love for the breed!
The World’s Cutest Sheep, now thriving in the Scenic Rim, QLD.
Often called the cutest sheep in the world, the Valais Blacknose Sheep hails from the breathtaking alpine region of Valais, Switzerland. With roots tracing back to the 15th century, this remarkable breed was originally developed for its resilience in rugged mountain climates, as well as its valuable wool and meat.
What sets the Valais Blacknose apart is more than just their striking appearance, featuring bold black faces, ears, knees, and spiralled horns contrasted against their shaggy white fleece. It’s their gentle, inquisitive, and affectionate temperament that truly wins hearts. These sheep aren’t just livestock, they’re beloved companions and cherished paddock pets around the world.

The Valais Journey to Australia
The arrival of Valais Blacknose Sheep in Australia is a story of passion, patience, and pioneering spirit. In March 2021, Australia welcomed its first 50% Valais lamb, born in Victoria. A milestone achieved through the importation of embryos and semen. Just one month later, the first purebred Valais Blacknose lamb was born, marking a historic step forward for the breed on Australian soil.
Here at Northview Highlands we are joining the very few Valais Blacknose Sheep breeders in Queensland. Our aim is to share our love for the breed with options of Purebred or Breed up sheep available to other Queensland farms and families. Stay tuned as we embark on this journey with 4 of our ewes due to lamb in October 2025.
